Project Brief Description |
Solidarity for Afghan Families (SAF), has signed the contract of this project with UNICEF on 1st January 2024 and will continue till 31st March 2025 for a period of 15 months, this project is being supported by UNICEF/WB.
The main goal of this project is “provision of Primary and Secondary Health Services through Basic Package of Health Services (BPHS) and Essential Package of Hospital Services (EPHS) to the entire population of Jawzjan province”
This project is being implemented in all 11 districts of Jawzjan province through 49 HFs including 2 DHs, 5 CHCs, 2 CHC+s, 14 BHCs, 25 SHCs and one prison HC and 339 HPs at community level.
The main objective of this project is to improve access, utilization and quality of the curative and preventive health care services in an equitable and sustainable manner through implementation of BPHS and EPHS.

This project is being implemented in all 14 districts of Faryab province through 66 HFs including 1 PH, 2 DHs, 11 CHCs, 4 CHC+s, 19 BHCs, 28 SHCs and one prison HC and 547 HPs at community level.
The main objective of this project is to improve access, utilization and quality of the curative and preventive health care services in an equitable and sustainable manner through implementation of BPHS and EPHS.

The main goal of this project is “provision of Primary and Secondary Health Services through Basic Package of Health Services (BPHS) and Essential Package of Hospital Services (EPHS) to the entire population of Badghis province”
This project is being implemented in all 7 districts of Badghis province through 54 HFs including 1 PH, 1 DHs, 5 CHCs, 20 BHCs, 21 SHCs, 2 MHTs, 3 FFHs, and one prison HC and 338 HPs at community level.
The main objective of this project is to improve access, utilization and quality of the curative and preventive health care services in an equitable and sustainable manner through implementation of BPHS and EPHS.
DTCs Project (Full Support to Drug Treatment Centers (DTCs) in Afghanistan):

1- A total of 1,520 men, women, and children will directly benefit through CATCs in targeted provinces.
2- Over 50,000 addicted clients will benefit from the Out-Patient Department services through DATCs and outreach teams in targeted provinces.
3- More than 100,000 addicted people will directly benefit from counseling and social services.
Indirect: total 200000
Family members of the addicted people, project staff, and their family members, are estimated to be around 200,000.

Project Main Activity:
1. Providing a range of treatment services such as detoxification, counseling, and medication-assisted treatment.
2. Offering health and psychosocial support, treatment planning, and recovery management.
3. Addressing infectious diseases like HIV, Hepatitis C, and tuberculosis.
4. Extending family support, reintegration services, and ensuring a protected environment for recovery.
Project Specific Activity:
1. Deliver evidence-based, human rights-oriented treatment services following guidelines and global standards
2. Increase access to quality treatment, recovery, and integration services, including timely referrals.
3. Establish a holistic community-based system for drug abuse prevention, mental health support, and stigma reduction
Solidarity for Afghan Families (SAF), since November 2023 is implementing this project in Herat, Badghis, Jozjan and Kabul provinces with financial support of UNODC/EU.
The main goal of this project is “To improve the health and well-being of the targeted population, and reduce morbidity and mortality caused by drug addiction.
The project is implementing through 3DATCS (150 bed DATC and three Outreach teams of Herat, 20 bed DATC of Badghis, 20 bed DATC of Jozjan and three Outreach teams of Kabul 100 bed DATC one) in Herat, Badghis, Jozjan and Kabul provinces, covering a total of 151,656 men, women, and children will directly benefit through CATCs in targeted provinces populations.
Community Based Nutrition Intervention (CBNI)

Overall objective: To improve the capacity of CHW and other community volunteers such as Family Health Action Group (FHAG) members to provide age-appropriate and gender-responsive community-based nutrition services.
Program activities:
1. Conducting capacity development sessions for provincial nutrition team, CHSs, CHW & community volunteers, children caregiver/ mothers and health shura members on the CBNP initials
2. Distribution of strengthening powder or micronutrients for children aged six months to five years
3. Distribution of iron and folic acid tablets for ten to nineteen year old girls
4. Training of MDs, Midwives, Nurses and Nutrition Counsellors of Faryab HFs on providing nutrition services for mothers, babies and children (MIYCN)
5. Educating mothers about measuring the arm diameter of children under two years old (Mother MUAC Approach) in order to evaluate their children's nutritional status and growth.
6. Conducting Community Mobilization Sessions (CMS), distribution of CBNP & cooking kits, conducting GMP monthly based sessions and regularly reporting from program implementing in the community level.

Project Activity: conducting Mentorship Learning Session
Solidarity for Afghan Families implemented the Fixed Price Contract (FPC) project in Jawzjan Province. The project funded by USIAD through Assistance For Indigent Afghans to Thrive (AFIAT) project, which is implementing by Management Science for Health (MSH) in 14 Province of Afghanistan. One of the main objective of the project is to Improve the quality of primary and secondary health and nutrition services in targeted rural areas, to achieve above-mentioned objective, the FPC project Quality Improvement Officers (QIOs) conducted mentorship learning session in 8 HFs health workers, which are Aqcha DH, Fayz Abad CHC+, Khawaja Du Koh CHC, Baba Ali BHC, Jaghsai BHC, Proja-L, Proja-Ja and Safar Wali SHC, as well as the project provided mentorship learning session to 45 HPs.
During the period of project 976 learning session,120 patient competency, 62 model competency learning session conducted to above-mentioned HFs health workers, the mentorships were based on HQIP standards thematic area, and followed up the Low Does High Frequency (LDHF) method, meanwhile the staff of HFs conducted peer to peer learning session which is very effective in improvement of quality of health care and nutrition.
Malaria Project (Combined grant to support HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis & Malaria programs and Health Systems in Afghanistan):

Project Activity:
Case finding of malaria disease through public sector health facilities, and Diagnose, treatment of malaria cases at the HFs.
Solidarity for Afghan Families (SAF), since January 2023 is implementing this project in Jawzjan province with financial support of GF/UNDP.
The main goal of this project is “to contribute to the overall improvement of the health status of the people under the coverage of the targeted provinces, through reduction of morbidity and mortality associated with malaria.
The project is implementing through 54 HFs (49 BPHS HFs, one PH, and four non-BPHS HFs) in Jawzjan province, covering a total of 800,355 populations.
Total of number of 2072 suspected malaria cases received a parasitological test at public sector HFs, among them 17 confirmed malaria cases (13 PV and 4 PF) received first-line antimalarial treatment.

Project Activity |
Solidarity for Afghan Families (SAF), since January 2023 is implementing this project in Jawzjan province with financial support of GF/UNDP.
The main goal of this project is “to contribute to the overall improvement of the health status of the people under the coverage of the targeted provinces, through reduction of morbidity and mortality associated with malaria.
The activities are implementing through 340 HPs in Jawzjan province, covering a total of 800,355 populations.
Total number of 3112 suspected malaria cases received a parasitological test in the community level, and with none of them malaria cases became confirmed.

TSFP is a component of Community Based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM). The project is implementing by SAF in Jawzjan province by financial support of WFP.
The overall objective of the project is treatment of moderate acute malnutrition (MAM) and prevention of severe acute malnutrition (SAM) among the children 6-59 months and pregnant and lactation women (PLW). This program is being implemented through 50 service delivery sites in Jawzjan province.
The specific objectives of the program are:
1) To treat moderate acute malnutrition (MAM) among children aged 6 to 59 month, and prevent these children from becoming severe acutely malnourished.
2) To treat acutely malnourished pregnant and lactating women (AM-PLW) from the time of confirmed pregnancy up their 6 months of breast-feeding.
3).To increase awareness and practice amongst caregivers, communities and women of reproductive age in optimal infant & young child feeding and care and maternal nutrition.
It worth of mentioning that the MAM children care takers and the malnourished pregnant & lactating omen are oriented about IYCF during the treatment process.
During 2023, a total number of 13,450 eligible pregnant & lactating women and 23,938 targeted children benefited from the OPD MAM services.
