1. AHF/CHF funded project (AFG18/348116RA/H-N/NGO/11424) in Jawzjan province “Improving accessibility of underserved population (IDPs and marginalized communities) of Jawzjan province to quality health care and nutrition services through Mobile Health Teams and fixed BPHS health facilities”:

 

Solidarity for Afghan Families (SAF) from 25th of December 2018 formally took the responsibility of implementing the AHF/CHF funded project (AFG18/348116RA/H-N/NGO/11424) in Jawzjan province. This project continued till 25th June 2019. SAF through this project will offer mobile health and nutrition services to the IDPs and hard to reach communities in Sheberghan, Qushtepa, Darzab, Faizabad, Mingajik and Khajadoko districts of Jawzjan province with main focus on children and women, through five fully staffed and equipped mobile health teams (MHTs). In addition, SAF through this project expanded OPD SAM in 21 BPHS sub/primary health centers (SHCs/PCHs) of the province.

 

  1. SEHAT Phase-1 Project in Nimroz:

SAF successfully implemented the Basic Package of Health Services (BPHS) in Nimroz province, under SEHAT phase-I, from 1st Jan 2014 to 30 June 2017, through 3 CHCs, 6 BHCs, one Prison health center, 7 SHCs, one MHT and 118 Health Posts. The CME and CHNE 24 month’s educational program in Nimroz, which were started by SAF in 2014, successfully completed and finally 46 well trained Community Midwives and Community Nurses were graduated from both schools in late 2016.

The project was financially supported by MoPH/ WB.

 

  1. PCH Projects in Faryab and Jawzjan:

SAF has implemented two BPHS projects in FARYAB and JAWZJAN provinces under PCH/USAID program, from Nov. 2009 to June 2015. SAF through these two projects implemented all components of BPHS by running 4-DHs, 3-CHC-Pluses, 20-CHCs, 34-BHCs, 19 SCs, 2-Prison Health Centers and 893-HPs for a total of 1.5 million residents of Faryab and Jawzjan provinces.

  1. PPG project in Faryab province:

From 2006 up to 2009, SAF as sub-partner of AADA (the lead agency) has successfully implemented a BPHS/PPG project in first cluster of Faryab province. By this project, SAF provided all components of BPHS to a population of eight districts of Faryab province through 1-CHC-Plus, 5-CHCs, 4-BHCs and 127-HPs. The project was financially supported by USAID.

  1. Implementation of BPHS project (PPA):

From July 2006 to Jun 2008, SAF as a sub-partner of BDF/BDN (lead agency), has successfully implemented a BPHS/PPA project in three districts of Ghazni province namely, Waghaz, Rashidan and Khugyani through 3 CHCs.

 

  1. Improve Access to Quality Health Care through Sub Centers and Mobile Health Teams:

SAF from Jan 2009 to Dec. 2012 implemented a Basic Package Health Services (BPHS) project in Faryab province under the “Improved access to quality health care through 11 Sub Centers and one mobile health teams (MHTs)” serving to the most underserved and isolated population in six districts of Faryab province namely Shirintagab, Kohistan, Gorziwan, Pashtoonkoot, Almar and Qaysar in very remote areas. The project was financially supported by HSS-GAVI.

  1. CB DOTs:

This project was awarded to SAF by Management Sciences for Health (MSH) on 2nd of March 2012 and continued till 30th Sep 2012. The main objectives of the project were; 1) to improve and strengthen the community based DOTs activity at community level and strengthening laboratory microscopy at the Basic Health Center (BHC) level and; 2) increasing the case detection especially at early stages and growing efficient, accessible and equitable health

 

  1. Reproductive Health Project:

SAF as sub partner, has implemented a reproductive health project in Kohistan district of Faryab province in association with Agency for Assistance and Development for Afghanistan (AADA), funded by UNFPA. Under this partnership SAF independently has been implementing a Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric Care (CEOC) in Kohistan district of Faryab from June 2008 till November 2009. This project was focusing on strengthening infrastructure to increase access of women at childbearing age to CEOC services.

  1. Expansion of post-partum hemorrhage (EPPH):

SAF has implemented the Expansion of post-partum project (EPPHP) in Jawzjan province. The project was funded by Jhpiego/ health service support project/ HSSP. This project aimed at studying the role of community based distribution of Mesoprostool (tablets) in prevention of post-partum hemorrhage and reducing the mortality rate among child bearing age (CBA) women. The project was implemented in 4 districts of Jawzjan province (Aqcha, Qarqin, Qushtepa and khamyab).

  1. Results Based Financing (RBF) project:

Since Aug 2010, SAF started implementation the project of RBF in Jawzjan province. The project was a pilot BPHS supporting intervention aimed to improve performances of the clinical staff including MDs, Midwives, Nurses, vaccinators etc and increase their achievements towards selective BPHS targeted indicators. This project was funded by World Bank till end of December 2013. 

  1. Equipping of 5 BHCs with microcopy diagnostic capacity:

As a BPHS supporting project, it was awarded to SAF by MoPH on 1st of April 2011 and successfully ended on December 2013. The main objectives of the project were; 1) to improve the capacity of lab technicians; 2) to equip BHCs with microscopy diagnostic capacity and; 3) to increase the TB case detection at the health facility level (BHC level). The project was being financially supported by Global Fund. The project was implemented in 5 BHCs of Faryab province.

12.  Implementation of CB DOTs in Faryab and Jawzjan provinces:

CB DOTs project was granted to SAF by MSH, INC on 2nd October 2012 to be implemented in Faryab and Jawzjan provinces of Afghanistan. This project aimed at implementing the Community Based DOTS through the community health workers (CHWs). At the same time, the laboratory activities were regularly being supervised by the NTP Provincial Lab Supervisor, BPHS supervisors and CB DOTs focal persons. The project as per the contract was successfully completed at the end of December 2013.

  1. Enhancement of TB Control Program (TB-CP):

SAF has implemented the project of Enhancement of TB Control Program/TB-CP in Faryab province from October 2010 till September 2011. The goal of this project was to reduce TB burden of Afghanistan by 2015 according to Afghanistan’s Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The direct beneficiaries of the program were women and Children. This project was funded by Global Fund/BRAC.

  1. Sputum Collection Project:

SAF has implemented three projects of Sputum Collection areas in Jawzjan and Faryab provinces, with the financial support of MSH. The main purpose of the project was to construct separate area for collection of sputum specimen in CHCs, CHC+ and DHs for the prevention of TB spread in the environment.

  1. Advocacy to Remove Existing Street Dogs:

This project was awarded to SAF by AWEC. The project was started on January 2010 and ended on June 2010. The main goal of the project was to improve the environmental health and removing the street dogs through multi-sectoral collaboration in 11th district of Kabul city and to provide advocacy against harms of street dogs (Rabies).

  1. Community led Total Sanitation project (CLTS):

This project was awarded by ARD to SAF on October 2011 and completed on Dec 2011. The main objectives of the project were to empower the community to combat against water born infection, changing the behavior of the community on open defecation, hand washing and increasing the awareness of the community.

  1. Honey Beekeeping Training and Equipment Supply:

The project of Honey Beekeeping Training and Equipment Supply was awarded to SAF by ARD-LGCD. The project was started on 1st of November 2008 and ended on 30th of April 2009. The main purpose of the project was to train 40 families in Dara-e-Pajman (a district of Baghlan province) on issues related to beekeeping and supply them with beekeeping equipment.
